Strong performances in Münster and Lastrup
Back from Rio, Meredith in Münster. While the weather was similarly hot, the horses differed: Jackie Brown, Daisy, Apsara and Comanche competed at the 4* event. The latter proved to be in great form, starting the weekend with an easy clear on Friday. He returned to the ring for Sunday's Grand Prix, jumping one of six clears in the first round in his eye-catching style. Thirteen horses went through to the winning round and Chief cleared the course seemingly effortless once again, placing sixth in a very fast class. It wasn't only his style that caught people's attention, though, Meredith' groom Anu was awarded the first prize as "Best Groom" following the Grand Prix, for the way Chief and his stable mates were turned out throughout the show.
Apsara was Meredith' choice for the Grand Prix qualifier and the dark mare made it through to the jump-off easily, eventually placing seventh. Both young horses (Daisy competed in the Youngster Cup, Jackie jumped Friday's opening class) delivered good rounds as well. Due to the hot weather Meredith opted not to return Daisy for a second class (the final) on Saturday.
Markus' weekend wasn't any less successful: aboard his top horse Tequila de Lile he won the Grand Prix in Lastrup/Klein Roscharden. Only seven out of over 70 starters had managed to keep a clean sheet over the first round track and once again Tequila and Markus came back with a strong performance in the jump-off, being remarkably four seconds faster than runner-up Vincent Geerink.
